Dr. Coe is a professor in the Department of Chemistry and Biology at X* University, and internationally known for her advocacy in support of equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility  in STEM.

Our panelists are:

Dr. Anthony Bonato is a gay man and award-winning mathematician. In addition to his four mathematics books, his debut novel Patterns will be published in Fall 2022. He is currently full Professor in the Department of Mathematics at X University.* He’s served on several national research committees and recently co-chaired the first-ever LGBTQ+Math Day.
 

Dr. Laurie Rousseau-Nepton is an astronomer, currently based at the Canada-France-Hawaii Observatory, Mauna Kea, Hawaii.  She is first Indigenous woman in Quebec to obtain a PhD in astrophysics.

 

Dr. Krishana Sankar is a biologist and science communicator. Recently she's focused on COVID-19 in several roles, including serving as the scientific Liaison and Community Partnerships lead for the anti-misinformation ScienceUpFirst campaign, as a science communication lead for COVID-19 Resources Canada, and as an expert for COVID-19 Vaccine Safety Q&A sessions.

 

Vanessa Vakharia is the founder and director of The Math Guru, a STEM-tutoring studio. Through her writing, speaking, and teaching, she pushes to change the culture of math and science to make it accessible and welcoming to all, especially young women.

X University

*The university's namesake was instrumental in the development of the residential school system, a system that caused, and the legacy of which continues to cause, incalculable suffering to Indigenous People and their communities. The Standing Strong (Mash Koh Wee Kah Pooh Win) Task Force is currently consulting with university community members and will be developing recommendations to the President and Board of Governors regarding the legacy of Egerton Ryerson and the principles that should be considered when making recommendations about commemoration.

Ryan Imgrund will discuss his experiences in the last ~15 months of publishing daily COVID numbers for Ontario, and engaging with journalists, government officials, and others via social and traditional media.
